As you may be aware,

Bear Paw Service District (BPSD) and Cherokee County (CC) had approved a Parking Ordinance in 2002 to allow BPSD to regulate motor vehicle and other parking within the community. The ordinance requires BPSD to identify type of parking restriction(s) and time frame (hours) permitted (if applicable) on any signage. BPSD by-laws do not allow for motor vehicle, trailer, RV, motorhome or other parking on BPSD roads, common areas, easements and other BPSD property. As such, some areas within BPSD have/had signage erected restricting motor vehicle parking. Unfortunately for the past few years the areas have been used for short and long term boat and watercraft trailer parking since signage did not include or restrict trailers.

As of July 1, 2019 BPSD will begin enforcing the parking ordinance within the community. A motor vehicle, boat, watercraft, trailer, etc. found to be in violation of a parking restriction may be towed at the owner’s expense. Leniency will be exercised during the first month of enforcement.

Preparation leading up to July will include:

A hand out to be distributed at the guardhouse to all entering BPSD announcing the Ordinance and its enforcement,
BPSD establishing a boat or other trailer daily log at the guard house of all vehicles entering BPSD to establish owner, residence, rental unit, etc.,
An announcement form will be developed to affix to a vehicle/other in violation requesting the unit be move,
Parking policy will be added to the wording currently on the BPSD Visitor Pass, and
Signage detailing the towing company and contact information will be available at the guard house.

I am sure you will agree with me that the number one priority of BPSD, Cottage Owners, Condo Owners and Lake Front Property Owners Associations is to ensure a pleasant and enjoyable living environment for all residents and guests. Controlling parking is essential for everyone’s safety and the beautification of the community.

Please pass this information on to your residents and do not hesitate to call me at any time should you have any questions or desire additional information.

Appreciatively,
Dennis E. Strand
